About me »
Hello, my name is Marisa and I am from São Paulo, Brazil. I am married to a gorgeous Welshman (Errol) and I've been living in Fishponds (Bristol) since April 2005. At the moment I teach Portuguese here in my place and I have lots of fun doing so!!! I really LOVE what I do because I've been teaching all my life...well ... cough ... cough... since 1991 ... anyway, here you can know me a little bit better :o) It is also possible to contact (former and present) students to obtain references. My success as a tutor is dependent upon my professionalism and expertise. I hold formal qualifications to teach Portuguese and I have experience in teaching Portuguese as a foreign language. My personal qualities as a language tutor are:
My Portuguese lessons emphasizes both the culture and the literature of Brazil, and includes classes on popular culture, music & cinema. My personal language lab has a varied collection of both Brazilian films as well as music. Every 2-3 months I like to have a "Tarde no Cinema", where the students can get together and watch a Brazilian film. If you go to my blog you can see which ones we have already seen so far.

"I spent three months travelling around Brasil and then two months in Rio De Janeiro. I fell in love with the country and have been planing my return ever since I got back to the U.K. I have Spanish and Venezuelan parents so I have always spoken Spanish and I found that I picked up a lot of Portuguese very quickly so when I got back to the U.K I decided to take lessons to try and improve on what I had learnt and get a better grasp of the language for when I return to Brasil. I found a very good Portuguese teacher in my home town of Bristol who was from Sao Paulo and the lessons I received from her were priceless. I look forward to more lessons in the future".
"I support an after-school project in the slums of Fortaleza in North-East Brazil. I've visited it twice to help with computers and networking, but would like to help more. Ideally I'd like to pass on some of my IT skills, so need to be able to speak Portuguese to the children and teachers at the project. " For more information about this project please go to:
